Summary

The stunning new 10+ story from the bestselling and award-winning author of TIME TRAVELLING WITH A HAMSTER, for anyone who loved the humour of WALL-E, the action of STAR WARS and the deeply touching emotion of ET。

A small village in the wilds of Northumberland is rocked by the disappearance of twelve-year-old Tammy。 Only her twin brother, Ethan, knows she is safe – and the extraordinary truth of where she is。 It is a secret he must keep, or risk never seeing her again。

But that doesn’t mean he’s going to give up。

Together with his friend Iggy and the mysterious (and very hairy) Hellyann, Ethan teams up with a spaceship called Philip, and Suzy the trained chicken, for a nail-biting chase to get his sister back… that will take him further than anyone has ever been before。

A remarkable story of sibling connection, friendship and interstellar adventure from the author Kiran Millwood Hargrave called “one of my favourite middle grade writers”。

Actual rating: 3。8/5It definitely grabbed my attention at the start of the book, I connected with the character and felt intrigued with the story, but as I continue to read I slowly lost interest in the storyline as I thought it was somewhat slow at certain parts, but fast in others。 It is still a good book to pick up and is not that long of a read。

This book was my first pick from the writings of Ross Welford。 The book left me in awe withit’s simplistic, relatable characters and a convincing science fiction infused with the right balance of nail-biting suspense, immensely enjoyable action and thought-provoking moments。The story starts off with a ‘Missing’ advertisement for Tammy, a 12 year old, who disappeared suddenly in the suburbs of a small town called Northumberland。 On another planet far away from the earth we are in the shoes of Hel This book was my first pick from the writings of Ross Welford。 The book left me in awe withit’s simplistic, relatable characters and a convincing science fiction infused with the right balance of nail-biting suspense, immensely enjoyable action and thought-provoking moments。The story starts off with a ‘Missing’ advertisement for Tammy, a 12 year old, who disappeared suddenly in the suburbs of a small town called Northumberland。 On another planet far away from the earth we are in the shoes of Hellyann, who is visiting a human zoo, yes, a HUMAN zoo, where humans are held captive by the advanced alien species for their research and study。 As she passes by different human exhibits, which are living, she feels an incomprehensible connection with Tammy。 Hellyann is surprised at how human faces are so expressive and she empathises withTammy, the same missing girl from Northumberland。 The aliens on the planet though are soadvanced than the human counterparts, they do not have emotions, and they don’t feel things。 They don’t cry, neither are they prone to irrational acts of love and sacrifice。 But, Hellyann is somehow cursed with having feelings。 And, she has to keep that a secret, or else she might be at risk of having the same fate as other humans in the zoo。Then we are introduced to Ethan, Tammy’s twin brother and his friend Iggy, along with histrained little chicken。 The story then takes a turn when Ethan finds out that his missing sister isheld captive in an alien planet, and the kiddos team up to save Tammy, no matter the risk。That’s how the story unfolds into an exciting journey filled with fun, and adrenaline-rushingadventure。The whole time I read the book, it felt like an animated movie。 And I really look forward tothis book being made into a film。 I am absolutely sure it’s going to be loved by kids as well asadults。 Though the setting seems to be around kids, the emotions are universal, that are relatableto a reader of any age group。 The adult characters in the story also are developed quite well, unlikemany other children’s books。The instances and conversations between Tammy and Ethan, though less in number formthe base for the decisions taken by them in the future。 How far can one go for their loved one?Ethan travels to another planet for Tammy。Though Tammy doesn’t have many direct dialogues, we still feel her presence subtly in themoments when Ethan misses her and remembers her words。 Through this, the author successfully makes the reader believe in the closeness and the strong bond they share with each other。The story quietly weaves many lessons without sounding preachy。 The friendship amongstthe kiddos' team and the courage they exhibit while they encounter unforeseen challenges andvillains stronger than them are intricately woven into the sheer actions of the characters。 Nocharacter feels dull。 Every character has a role to play。 Especially the role of Ethan’s granny came asa sudden surprise in the story。Overall the story and style were great and the writing was such that the scenes were playingjust in front of my eyes。 It’s my personal favourite because of the fun, simple, innocent emotions Ican relate to。I would suggest this book for its light-hearted tone and fun-filled characters。 Impressed bythe author’s writing, I started reading another one of his works too i。e “Into the Sideways World”。 。。。more

I HATED this book。 First, it was anything BUT child appropriate。 It was extremley weird, and it made terrible things sound fun! I got extremley angry, as it was veeeery slow an it made me feel so weird。 I am sorry to say this, maybe it's coming from me, not the author, but I won't ever read it again。。。I get that this can be some person's kind of literature, but for me it was disappointment。 I HATED this book。 First, it was anything BUT child appropriate。 It was extremley weird, and it made terrible things sound fun! Didn't enjoy this one as much as the Sideways World one。 It didn't flow quite as smoothly and there were whole scenes that seemed unnecessary or just not polished enough。 Not sure that I'd recommend it to anyone unless they really like the thought of a kiddie crime drama with aliens。 Actually, it does sound pretty good when you say it like that。。。 I still want to read more of Ross Welford's kid's fiction, I feel like he's definitely got the potential to tell a good story, but I won't be rereadin Didn't enjoy this one as much as the Sideways World one。 It didn't flow quite as smoothly and there were whole scenes that seemed unnecessary or just not polished enough。 Not sure that I'd recommend it to anyone unless they really like the thought of a kiddie crime drama with aliens。 Actually, it does sound pretty good when you say it like that。。。 I still want to read more of Ross Welford's kid's fiction, I feel like he's definitely got the potential to tell a good story, but I won't be rereading this particular one。 。。。more
